An Indian expat in Bahrain died yesterday after the complications he developed following the consumption of a pain reliever pill along with an energy drink, according to sources.
Sudhakaran (45), an expat from the Kozhikode district of the Indian state of Kerala, died at the King Hamad University Hospital (KHUH) in Muharraq yesterday morning at around 11.
Sudhakaran, who works in the porter service section of the Bahrain International Airport, is survived by wife Bindu and two children who are in India. The body has been shifted to the KHUH mortuary.
He was found unconscious, frothing from mouth, in his bed in the company accommodation in Hidd on Friday evening. He was immediately taken to the Middle East Medical Centre (MEM) where doctors referred him to KHUH for specialised treatment.
He was on intensive care unit till yesterday without any progress and his friends said quoting doctors that death occurred due to blood clotting in the brain. When he was taken to the hospital, doctors had asked whether he had drunk anything to which friends said they had seen a bottle of energy drink on the table in his room.
On Friday Sudhakaran had taken an off day and was about to go out with his friend to spend time in Hidd LuLu hypermarket. Apparently he had headache and took a widely used over-the-counter analgesic (pain reliever) and a popular energy drink to go with it, friends said. They added that Sudhakaran had high blood pressure and was not very healthy, which made matters worse.
Sudhakaran came to Bahrain around six years ago and was on the visa of Al Fateh Cleaning and Maintenance Company in Bahrain. He hails from Mokeri, a town 56 kms away from Kozhikode. Back home he was working as a tailor and financial constraints forced him to come to Bahrain seeking better opportunity. Al Fateh company officials said the dead body would be repatriated to India once they get the consent letter from his wife and complete the formalities.
