Poetic gift of a fan

Manama : Omani poet Sultan Ahmed Al Mahmodi, a fan of the policies and initiatives of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on domestic and global level, gifted a copy of his poem written in praise of Modi to Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh at Four Seasons hotel here yesterday. Rajnath Singh is currently on a three-day visit to Bahrain.

Al Mahmodi, a 27-year-old actor, writer and singer, was impressed by the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission) a national campaign by the Government of India, covering 4,041 statutory cities and towns, to clean the streets, roads and infrastructure of the country. The campaign was officially launched on October 2, 2014 at Rajghat, New Delhi, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is India’s biggest ever cleanliness drive and three million government employees and school and college students of India participated in this event.

In appreciation of Modi, Al Mahmodi penned the poem in Arabic highlighting the efforts taken by the Indian Premier to reform not only his nation, but the entire world. Al Mahmodi told DT News that he had been inspired by Modi’s recent initiatives and the success of his visits to foreign countries, and his invitation to people from across the world to India.

Earlier this year, a copy of the poem was personally gifted by Al Mahmodi to the Indian Prime Minister’s Office. The poem was recited by him before Modi, who patiently listened to the poem and appreciated the adoration showed by the young artist.

Al Mahmodi admires the campaign launched by the Indian Prime Minister towards cleanliness. He also praised his resolve towards delinking terror from religion.

The poem has been videographed as a part of the film Swach Bharath directed by Vijeesh Mani. “The film, which will be made in 18 Indian languages, including Sanskrit, will be completed by the end of the year,” informed Vijeesh Mani. Indian Ambassador Alok Kumar Sinha, Vijeesh Mani, Ashraf Sky and Boban Mannil were also  present on the occasion.

‘A dream come true for me’

“It was a dream coming true moment for me”, said Sultan Ahmed Al Mahmodi after meeting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, India earlier this year. Sultan travelled to India as an official guest of the Indian Government to submit his poem.

“It was a great moment. Officially, I was given only five minutes, but the meeting went up to 20 minutes. I never expected that. He has advised me to visit cultural places of India and know more about India,” Sultan said.
