DNA test results to identify dead body to be out today
Manama : The DNA test results to identify the dead body found on the shore near Mina Salman Port late on Friday night are expected to be revealed today, according to reliable sources.
The test, which is part of a police investigation, was conducted yesterday to determine whether the body is genealogically related to the missing Indian expat Sadath Elangattil. He was missing since April 13.
As part of the DNA test at the Salmaniya Medical Complex hospital, a sample mouth swab was collected from Sadath’s uncle Kunhabdulla.
The body found on Friday was found in a decomposed state and was extremely difficult to identify the person at the SMC morgue. It is not clear yet as of how the death occurred.
When DT News contacted Kunhabdulla last night, he was still reeling from shock about hearing mysterious disappearance of Sadath and said could not speak. “I am not in a mental state to say anything today, let’s speak tomorrow. I am so tired, let me rest now,” he said from his accommodation in Riffa.
The unidentified man’s body was found washed up on the shore near Mina Salman Port late on Friday night. The Interior Ministry confirmed the incident by midnight, stating on its official Twitter page, “A decomposed body was found near the sea of Mina Salman area.”
A source told DT News that the body was found on the northern side of Khalifa bin Salman (Hidd) Bridge, near the US Navy Base.
“Security authorities cordoned off the area, while investigations were launched. Crime scene investigation and forensics teams were seen on the spot,” the source added.
Earlier, a man who supplies gas cylinders to Kunhabdulla’s restaurant in East Riffa had reported that he saw Sadath at the Le Marche Mall in Sitra on Friday morning. Kunhabdulla rushed to the scene and searched for his nephew, but in vain.
He had lodged a complaint with the Indian Embassy about his missing nephew. Social workers, relatives and friends have been searching for Sadath over the past few days everywhere including hospitals, mortuaries, parks and the Labour Market Regulatory Authority to check if he was taken into custody, but there was no record of such an incident.
Sadath was working in Saberah restaurant near LuLu in East Riffa. His uncle Kunhabdulla, who works in the same restaurant, said his nephew was staying at his accommodation near the restaurant.
Sadath hails from Vatakara, Cherandathur in the Indian state of Kerala. He has been leading an expat life in Bahrain for the past 12 years while his wife and two children are in India. According to LMRA website, his visa is valid and updated.
