A yoga class for kids in Bahrain!

Manama : GroovyKids Yoga in Bahrain is conducting a yoga class, designed specifically for children.

The yoga class was put into place here in order to serve growing children who are more and more at odds with in today’s ever-growing electronic world. Trademarked in the USA, the yoga routine was created by Greville Henwood.

At a time in our modern world where children are seen walking around with iPads, iPhones and all sorts of mind-focused gadgets, yoga and any sort of natural body movement could not be more recommended.

Yoga is a Sanskrit word, which actually translates in English as “to yoke” or “to join”. It is all about unification of the mind, body and spirit. When all these parts of us are aligned, we become one and are able to express from a position of deep empowerment. This is important for everyone; for our health, happiness and fulfilment in life.

Instead of seeing the mind and body as separate functionalities, yoga brings them together in harmony. Learning and growth is all about experience and movement.

“Children learn and grow with this 50 minutes well-rounded yoga routine,” said a GroovyKids Yoga spokesperson. “It increases
their focus, concentration, strength and balance by
moving. It helps grow their confidence and awareness by providing a non-judgmental, competition-free and safe environment where the children are allowed to be children and express themselves.”

More and more, evidences are pointing to the fact that sitting still in classrooms is not helping children learn, thrive or freely explore their individual talents. Movement is essential in integrating and processing information in different contexts and to different degrees. There is a difference between wisdom and simply collecting and parroting facts. Humans are created to move, since we are not inert beings, and yoga is one of the oldest practices that supports and nurtures our whole self.

Speaking to DT News, GroovyKids Yoga Co-ordinator in Bahrain Catherine Campbell said, “There is no doubt that we are all becoming much more proactive about our health and well being, and I truly believe that activities such as kids’ yoga plays an important part in preparing our little ones for their lives ahead. I feel our general lives are so busy and that kids leave our classes feeling they have gained some tools to manage stress and anxiety and practice mindfulness. They all leave feeling proud as it is in a non-competitive environment.”

Yoga develops body awareness, assists neuro-muscular development (important for growing kids), improves digestion and circulation, strengthens the immune system, calms the mind, increases concentration, focus and attention span, supports individuality and self-expression, inspires respect for self and others as well as encouraging a fit, healthy and active lifestyle.

Geared towards children, GroovyKids Yoga is a fun and stimulating way for children to advance and grow in all areas of life, taking what they learn in class, both inwardly and outwardly, and integrating and developing it in their daily lives. Any type of playful and self-directed movements are known to create endorphins and oxytocin, both of which are paramount to learning.

A quote by masterful yogi and humanitarian BKS Iyengar sums it up, “Yoga is like music. The rhythm of the body, the melody of the mind and the harmony of the soul creates the symphony of life.”
