Bahrain court renewed detention of youths in arson case

ManamaThe High Criminal Court renewed the detention of two young men accused of setting the car of a police officer on fire, by 15 days each.

A third man is implicated in this case, but he is in Iran and is being tried in absentia.

The pair in police custody, aged 16 and 20, allegedly committed their crime as their revenge towards the victim.

They accused him to be a police informant, and court files indicated that the first defendant, who is living in Iran, to be the mastermind of the attack.

He reportedly gave instructions to his accomplices to burn the car, because the victim was a ‘police informant’.

“He communicated with me through BlackBerry and asked me to set his car on fire, as he was working with the intelligence,” the 20-year-old accused told prosecutors.

“I contacted my friend (the 16-year-old suspect) and I requested him to provide gasoline. He did and left the bottle in an abandoned house in Hamad Town,” he added.

The duo reportedly captured a picture for the car while it was on fire and sent it to their co-defendant.
