Having failed to purloin a safe box from a bicycle shop, a suspected thief reportedly went on to rob two shops before attacking police officers in a bid to flee. He was later arrested by the police.
The alleged robber's crime exposed after he failed to carry the box from a neighbouring shop. When an employee noticed the change of position of the box, he reported the robbery attempt to the police.
The thief, a Bahraini man, tried to rob two adjacent shops also. When he was about to leave, the police arrived at the scene. Seeing the police, he tried to run away, according to court files. It's said that he had attacked three officers in an effort to escape. But he was eventually caught.
The defendant during interrogation admitted to breaking in the bicycle shop by using a hammer. "I saw a safe box inside the shop. But I struggled to lift it so I abandoned it and went to another two shops," the defendant said in his statement. "While I was returning to my car in order to flee, I saw police officers and they arrested me," he explained, denying assaulting the policemen.
The defendant is standing trial before the High Criminal Court, where he pleaded not guilty to charges of assaulting cops and robbing three shops. His next court hearing is scheduled on September 8.
