Three jailed for setting police patrol on fire

Three defendants, who set a police patrol on fire, have been slapped with heavy jail terms. They were sentenced yesterday to 15 years behind bars by the High Criminal Court.

The defendants are said to have attacked the patrol car that was carrying police officers, who were assigned to protect a local mosque in Sanad during Friday prayers.

The incident happened on August 14 last year, but no casualties were reported. Police officers, who were assaulted, said that the culprits had worn masks, and one of them poured fuel on the vehicle and others lobbed a flame on it.

The car was fully gutted in the fire. The trio were arrested following police investigations into the case. The first defendant said that they were communicating through a smart phone application.

“The defendants’ implication in the case have been established through the witnesses’ testimony, technical reports and images,” according to the Public Prosecution.
