Vandal attack: Suspect caught
The police have arrested one of the suspects involved in a vandal attack on community service officers, who were guarding a local mosque.
The victims were said to have been tasked to guard worshippers during Friday prayer on January 8 when a group of at least 12 men attacked them. They have also stolen a CCTV camera in a bid to destroy visual evidences, according to the court documents.
The attackers pounced on the guards and pelted firebombs at them before fleeing with the stolen camera. None of the officers were injured during the incident. The detainee told prosecutors that he participated in the attack after receiving a message about the same on Telegram. He claimed that he couldn’t identify the other culprits as they were wearing ‘masks’.
“We headed to the mosque, carrying the firebombs. Then we attacked the officers and fled after we stole the camera,” he told prosecutors. The defendant was earlier sentenced to three months behind the bars in connection with a riot case.
