Kingfish Net Fishing Banned
Bahrain’s Supreme Council for Environment has announced a two-month ban on catching kingfish using nets in the Kingdom’s territorial waters.
The ban will take effect from August 15 until October 15, 2026. During this period, kingfish may only be caught using fishing lines.
The decision is part of Bahrain’s ongoing efforts to protect marine resources, preserve fish stocks and support the sustainability of the marine environment, particularly during the kingfish breeding and spawning period.
The Supreme Council for Environment urged fishermen to comply with the ban, warning that illegal fishing of kingfish during the restricted period will result in legal action.
Fishermen are also required to immediately release any kingfish caught in their fishing equipment during the ban, taking appropriate care to ensure the fish remain unharmed.
