Inciting public: Jail term reduced after appeal
A man, who was convicted of inciting the public to break the law, has had his jail term reduced following an appeal.
Majeed Milad, who had earlier been sentenced to two years behind the bars, will now serve only one year in prison. The defendant is a senior member of Al Wefaq Islamic Society.
He was arrested after conducting a political symposium, where he urged the attendees to violate
the public demonstration laws.
The convict had been the head of the Capital Municipal Council for eight years
until 2014 when it was scrapped. Earlier, the Capital Prosecution said in a statement that the defendant was interrogated following a complaint of encouraging to violate the public demonstration laws.
“The accused was questioned and confronted with a recording of his remarks before being ordered to remain in police custody pending further investigations,” the statement read. However, it did not identify the defendant by his name.
“The defendant has been accused of instigating others to break the law,” the Public Prosecution concluded in the statement.
