Terror case adjourned until February 23

court yesterday adjourned a case of 26 defendants accused in connection with forming a terrorist cell until February 23 to hear the closing arguments of the fourth defendant.

Only 16 defendants are in police custody as the remaining suspects, who are still at large, are being tried in absentia.

Earlier, the Terror Crimes Prosecution said the cell was responsible for a number of blasts aiming to disrupt public order and reach terrorist goals.

It said in a statement that the defendants have been charged with running an illegal outfit in a bid to disrupt law implementation by using terror as a means to achieve their goals.

The cell was also accused of attempting to murder a policeman; providing training on using weapons and explosives; carrying out blasts and deliberate arson; damaging property and making, possessing and using explosive materials.

The defendants were also accused of possessing Molotov cocktails, holding unauthorised gatherings, rioting and hiding convicts.
