MPs agree for Hamad Town facilities

Parliament’s Services’ Committee, headed by MP Abbas Al Madhi, passed several proposals recently that were aiming at improving healthcare services in Hamad Town.

The proposals include the working hours of both health centres in Hamad Town (Hamad Town Health Center and Mohammed Jassim Kanoo Health Centre, commonly known as Kanoo), making them 24-hour operating healthcare facilities.

It also suggested establishing a maternity department in Kanoo Health Centre.

Presenters of the proposals justified their requests saying, “Hamad Town is witnessing a quick growth of population and is currently inhabited by more than 120, 000 residents. This calls for urgent solutions for the healthcare facilities in the area.”

The closest hospital to Hamad Town is Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) Military Hospital, which is around a 20-minutes drive away, a duration that is likely to increase during rush hours.

Emphasising on a related point, the MPs mentioned that no transportation was available to take patients from Hamad Town to the Military Hospital or Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) to attend appointments.

The committee passed both proposals to extend the working hours of both centres and establishing a maternity hospital at one of them.

Health Ministry’s reply to the proposals would be discussed among the MPs on Tuesday.
