Albareh to host ‘Requiem’

Albareh Art Gallery will host  ‘Requiem,’ a solo exhibition of the latest works of award-winning Lebanese artist Annie Kurkdjian on Adliya premises from February 9 to 29 between 7 and 9 pm.

Author Fred Noiret attributes the beginning of Kurkdjian’s salvation to her painting.

After years of ‘indescribable darkness’ punctuated by war, loss, death, and violence, Kurkdjian found solace in her art.

Requiem marks a clear evolution in the journey towards the eventual salvation predicted by Noiret.

Kurkdjian’s characters still revel in their solitude against neutral backdrops devoid of detail.

Kurkdjian was born in Lebanon in 1972 and continues to live and work in Beirut.

Deeply affected by the Lebanese Civil War as a child, Kurkdjian’s paintings reveal the profound depth of this experience and its impact on her.

She acknowledges her art as a form of self-therapy and describes her work as ‘existential’ paintings in which she explores people and their relationships with each other and the spaces they inhabit.

Kurkdjian holds a degree in fine arts from the Lebanese University. She also holds degrees in psychology and theology from the Lebanese University and St. Joseph’s University, respectively.

Her works have been exhibited in Bahrain, Jordan, Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates, France, Italy and the United Kingdom.
