Cooling Units Registration Goes Digital

New digital platform reduces processing time from 20 days to five days while strengthening environmental monitoring

The Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) has upgraded the “Registration Request Service for Large Cooling and Air-Conditioning Units” as part of ongoing government efforts to enhance service quality and streamline procedures.

The newly developed digital service enables licensed establishments to register cooling and air-conditioning units with a cooling capacity exceeding 15 refrigeration tons, including industrial air-conditioning systems and large refrigeration units.

The initiative aims to strengthen monitoring and ensure proper management of refrigerant gases through their recovery, recycling, and reduction of atmospheric emissions, in line with Bahrain’s environmental regulations and the requirements of the Montreal Protocol.

The upgraded platform also provides a centralised database allowing establishments to search registered units and regularly update their information, supporting inspection activities, environmental compliance, and monitoring efforts.

Faster Processing Through Digital Transformation

Under the improved service, the application completion period has been reduced from 20 working days to five days through full automation of procedures, fewer processing steps, simplified access requirements, and an enhanced user interface designed to improve efficiency and customer experience.

Supreme Council for Environment Chief Executive Amina Hamad Al Rumaihi said the upgraded service strengthens oversight of controlled refrigerants by providing an integrated electronic database that enables tracking, supports inspection programmes, and ensures compliance with environmental requirements.

She added that the development reflects the council’s commitment to improving its digital services, reducing time and effort for users, and enhancing the effectiveness of environmental management systems.

Supporting Bahrain’s Digital Government Goals

The service upgrade forms part of wider government efforts to redesign and improve public services.

More than 1,300 government services have been documented, translated, and published, with around 800 services undergoing development and re-engineering across various sectors.

These improvements were based on feedback received through the national suggestions and complaints system “Tawasul”, investor feedback, and mystery shopper reports evaluating government services.

The initiatives also include the introduction of service guidelines and service-level agreements aimed at improving efficiency, enhancing service quality, strengthening digital transformation, and improving beneficiary experiences.
