Royal Humanitarian Foundation reflects on a journey of care, resilience and impact

“Humanitarian Legacy” built on care, empowerment and global relief efforts

The Royal Humanitarian Foundation (RHF) has marked 25 years of humanitarian service, highlighting a journey that transformed it from a charity supporting orphans and widows into a comprehensive national institution dedicated to social care, human development and humanitarian assistance locally and internationally.

The Foundation celebrates its silver jubilee, under the theme “Humanitarian Legacy”, commemorating a quarter-century of achievements rooted in Bahrain’s commitment to placing people at the centre of development and strengthening values of solidarity, dignity and compassion.

Established in 2001 as the Orphans Sponsorship Committee, the institution gradually expanded its role to become a national humanitarian organisation responsible for supporting families, empowering individuals and implementing relief projects inside and outside Bahrain.

Over the past 25 years, the Foundation has shifted from traditional sponsorship-based assistance towards a comprehensive model focused on empowerment, improving quality of life and helping beneficiary families achieve stability and self-reliance.

International Recognition

The humanitarian vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa has received regional and international recognition for advancing orphan care and humanitarian work.

In 2015, His Majesty received the Al Sanabel Award for Social Responsibility in Orphan Care Institutions in the GCC, recognising his leadership role in supporting orphan welfare and establishing an integrated humanitarian model. 

In 2017, His Majesty was honoured with the Leadership Award for Orphan Care in Islamic Cooperation Organisation Member States, presented by humanitarian funds affiliated with the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, in recognition of Bahrain’s efforts in supporting orphans at national, regional and international levels.

A major milestone came on November 27, 2007, when the committee was reorganised into the Royal Charity Organisation, marking a new phase of institutional growth.

The Foundation developed initiatives aimed at preparing young beneficiaries for future careers, supporting families in achieving financial independence and enhancing emergency humanitarian response capabilities.
