Two Face Trial Over Expired Cleaning Products

Store worker and supplier employee accused of erasing expiry dates from household items

Two Asian nationals, currently in custody, have been referred to the Criminal Court after removing expiry dates from cleaning products in an attempt to return them to supermarket shelves.

According to the Public Prosecution, the case came to light after a major supermarket reported that one of its employees had conspired with an employee of a supplying company to erase expiry dates from cleaning product containers.

CCTV footage reportedly captured the incident, while investigators seized several tampered products, additional expired items, and the tool allegedly used to remove the dates.

During questioning, both defendants admitted the allegations. The supermarket employee said he erased the expiry dates to avoid salary deductions linked to expired stock, while the supplier's employee admitted assisting him to avoid disciplinary action.

A forensic expert confirmed that the expiry information had been deliberately scraped off, making the original dates impossible to recover.

Prosecutors have ordered both men to stand trial while remaining in custody, stressing that commercial fraud and product tampering pose a serious threat to consumer safety and will be prosecuted.
