New Business Opportunities for Citizens Through Heritage-Based Activities

Ministry of Industry and Commerce has introduced a new list of commercial activities reserved exclusively for Bahraini citizens, creating opportunities for local entrepreneurs while supporting the preservation of the Kingdom’s cultural heritage.

Industry and Commerce Minister Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro said the move reflects the ministry’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the entrepreneurship ecosystem by creating a supportive regulatory environment that enables Bahraini talents to transform their skills and expertise into sustainable businesses.

The announcement follows the issuance of Edict No. (36) of 2026, which identifies commercial activities that will be limited to Bahrainis.

The minister said the initiative will provide promising opportunities for citizens in sectors connected to Bahraini products, traditional industries and heritage-based services. The newly designated activities include the production of Bahraini sweets, the production and packaging of date palm blossom water and traditional local waters, traditional Bahraini crafts, traditional hospitality and food services for events, and live performances of Bahraini cultural arts.

Fakhro stressed that the decision goes beyond expanding the commercial activities register, saying it establishes a structured framework for businesses deeply connected to Bahraini society and culture.

He added that the move will allow skilled citizens to develop their products and services professionally, expand their reach to consumers and event organisers, and increase the economic value of Bahrain’s heritage while ensuring its authenticity and continuity for future generations.

The minister reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to empowering Bahraini entrepreneurs and supporting initiatives that contribute to economic diversification and strengthen the Kingdom’s distinctive national identity.
