Residents planting in front of their homes must keep every tree, shrub, planter and bed inside their own property boundary, Muharraq Municipality has said, warning that spilling onto pavements or public roads breaches the law governing the occupation of public roads.
The municipality said planting in front of homes helps improve the appearance of residential areas and enhances the quality of the environment, but that it must be carried out in line with regulatory requirements that safeguard road users, protect public facilities and prevent the unlawful occupation of public roads.
Under the rules set out by the municipality, planting must remain within the boundaries of the property and must not occupy pavements or public roads, obstruct pedestrian movement, or block sightlines at vehicle entrances and exits. Trees and plants must be pruned regularly, must not damage pavements, public facilities or infrastructure networks, and must not obscure guidance boards or traffic signs.
The municipality also urged residents to keep pedestrian walkways clear, safe and easy to use at all times, and to avoid any damage that might result from planting work or tree roots.
"The front of your home reflects your taste, and planting it responsibly reflects your awareness," the municipality said in its message to residents, urging them to plant responsibly and preserve the public road.
