Bahrain Coast Guard restricts fishing and leisure vessel operations
The Coast Guard Command of the Ministry of Interior has clarified a new decision imposing a temporary ban on marine movement across Bahrain’s waters, as part of precautionary measures aimed at ensuring maritime safety and security.
Mohammed Thabit, Head of Operations and Planning at the Coast Guard Command, stated that the decision was taken to protect seafarers and all sea users during what he described as a sensitive security situation affecting the Kingdom of Bahrain. He noted that the measures are intended to safeguard citizens and residents and enhance coastal protection readiness.
According to the announcement, the ban on marine activity applies to fishing boats and recreational vessels and will be in effect daily from 6:00pm to 4:00am, starting immediately and continuing until further notice.
The restricted zones extend from Bahrain’s coastal baseline to designated maritime boundaries, including the northern maritime zone. Small vessels are prohibited from crossing beyond the specified limits. Additional restrictions cover marine movement from the coastal baseline toward Bahrain’s western, eastern, and southern maritime borders.
Officials confirmed that these measures follow earlier regulations governing sea traffic, as illustrated in an accompanying official map. The Ministry of Interior urged all sea users to strictly comply with the new timing restrictions and avoid approaching coastal areas, stressing that violations could result in legal action.
The ministry emphasized that the decision is part of broader efforts to strengthen maritime safety and maintain a high level of operational readiness under current circumstances.
