Man Arrested for Luring Children Online with Fake Gifts
The Ministry of Interior has announced the arrest of a 32-year-old man accused of targeting children social media platforms and attempting to lure them using deceptive methods.
According to authorities, the suspect allegedly contacted multiple children online, misleading them with promises of gifts and financial rewards in order to gain their trust and manipulate them.
The case came to light after a report was submitted through the electronic reporting service on the “My Government” (Hukoomati) app. Following the complaint, the Child Protection Unit in Cyberspace—part of the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security—launched an investigation, gathering evidence and identifying the suspect before successfully apprehending him.
Investigations revealed that the accused used unethical tactics, including sending images and content of previous victims who had already been lured, in an attempt to pressure and exploit new targets for unlawful purposes.
Legal procedures have been initiated, and the case is being prepared for referral to the Public Prosecution.
Authorities also stressed the importance of parental supervision and raising awareness among children about the dangers of interacting with strangers online. Parents are urged to monitor their children’s social media usage and educate them not to share personal information or images with unknown individuals, while reporting any suspicious contact immediately.
