Saudi Foreign Minister Arrives in France for High-Stakes G7 Talks

Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, has arrived at the venue of the G7 foreign ministers’ meeting at Vaux-de-Cernay Abbey, as global leaders gather for crucial discussions on escalating geopolitical and economic challenges.

The G7 ministerial meeting, taking place in France from March 26–27, brings together top diplomats to address the far-reaching economic consequences of the ongoing conflicts involving Iran and Ukraine.

Key discussions are centered on stabilizing global energy markets, maintaining coordinated sanctions against Russia, and navigating shifts in United States foreign policy.

European leaders are pushing for de-escalation in the Iran conflict, citing its severe disruption to global energy supplies and broader economic stability. The issue remains a top priority amid rising concerns over oil markets and inflation.

Support for Ukraine continues to be a central theme, with ministers reaffirming commitments to Kyiv and exploring further sanctions on Russia. Plans are also underway to secure Ukraine’s energy sector ahead of the upcoming winter season.

The meeting is also taking place against a backdrop of growing friction between allies over evolving U.S. foreign policy, particularly regarding concerns that Washington may pressure Ukraine into accepting unfavorable peace terms.

Maritime security has also been highlighted, with ministers stressing the need to safeguard key shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global oil transport.

In a follow-up to the ministerial talks, a virtual meeting involving G7 finance and energy ministers is scheduled for Monday to further address global economic challenges, including inflation and energy security.
