Proposal seeks to restore cancelled housing applications

Manama: For many Bahraini families, securing a housing unit represents years of waiting, planning and hope for a stable future. Yet for some applicants, that hope has been disrupted when their housing requests were cancelled after their salaries exceeded the eligibility threshold.

A parliamentary proposal now seeks to restore housing applications previously cancelled due to salary increases.

The proposal is set to be discussed during the upcoming parliamentary session and calls for reviewing cases in which applicants lost their eligibility after their income rose beyond the required limit.

Supporters of the proposal say that many applicants had already spent years on waiting lists before their applications were cancelled, leaving families uncertain about their housing prospects.

Members noted that salary increases, while positive, should not automatically lead to the loss of housing applications, particularly when the rise in income does not necessarily translate into the ability to afford private housing.

They stressed that restoring such applications could provide relief to families who remain in need of housing support despite modest income growth.

The proposal reflects ongoing parliamentary efforts to address housing concerns and ensure that support programmes continue to respond to the real living conditions of citizens.

For many families, the discussion offers renewed hope that their path toward securing a home may not have ended after all.
