A fight at a stable that left one man with part of his nose gone has ended with Bahrain’s top court upholding a three-year prison term for the other man.

The Court of Cassation backed the sentence after a clash between a 42-year-old and a 30-year-old turned into a brawl on the ground. The younger man was left with a lasting injury put at 10 per cent.

An earlier ruling by the High Criminal Court of Appeal had also upheld a BD50 fine for one man and a three-year jail term for the other.

The older defendant said the other man had gone for him more than once and had started the fight.

He told the court he did not mean to bite him, saying he was pinned down and only trying to break free.

The case began when an Asian worker heard shouting and rushed over. He found the two men wrestling on the ground and tried to pull them apart.

By the end of it, the younger man was bleeding from the face. The older man then drove away from the stable, while the witness stayed behind to help stem the bleeding from the man’s nose.
