MPs have backed a proposal to establish a public park in Khalifa City, aiming to provide residents with a long-awaited green space and a gathering place for families in the rapidly growing neighbourhood.

The proposal, submitted by MPs Lulwa Al Rumaihi, Bader Al Tamimi, Hassan Bukhammas, Ali Al Dosari and Dr Ali Al Nuaimi, seeks to create a public park serving residents of the Tenth Constituency in the Southern Governorate and surrounding areas.

Supporters say the initiative reflects the growing need for community spaces as Khalifa City continues to expand with new housing developments and increasing population numbers. They stressed that accessible parks improve quality of life by giving families a safe place to relax, children space to play and residents opportunities to connect with their community.

According to the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, detailed design work for a model park in Khalifa City has already begun. The project is planned in Block 957 on plot number 12016095 and will cover an area of approximately 1,844 square metres.

The ministry said the development is being prepared in coordination with several government entities, and construction is expected to begin in the second half of 2026.

Plans for the park include landscaped green areas, lighting, seating spaces for families and walkways linking different sections of the site.

The wider project will also include a mosque, a community majlis and small commercial shops designed as part of one integrated public space intended to become a lively social hub for the neighbourhood.

Parliament’s Public Utilities and Environment Committee recommended approval of the proposal, noting that expanding green spaces contributes to stronger communities and supports environmental sustainability goals across the Kingdom.
