Bahrain Grand Prix 2026 to Showcase Formula 1’s New-Generation Cars

The Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), the Home of Motorsport in the Middle East, in partnership with Gulf Air, today officially unveiled the latest preparations for the 2026 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, marking the Kingdom’s role as host of one of the most anticipated rounds of Formula 1’s new era.

Scheduled to take place from April 10 to 12, the Bahrain Grand Prix will serve as the fourth round of the 2026 Formula 1 World Championship, under the official race slogan “Home of Racing Passion.” The race weekend promises world-class motorsport action alongside family entertainment and live music performances.

Strong Ticket Demand

Organisers confirmed today that tickets for the First Corner Grandstand have sold out completely, while the Main Grandstand has reached 98% capacity, with all hospitality suites and the Champions Club fully sold out—nearly two months ahead of race day.

Speaking at today’s launch, Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa, Chief Executive Officer of Bahrain International Circuit, said the strong demand reflects Bahrain’s growing global status in motorsport.

“We are extremely optimistic about the 2026 Bahrain Grand Prix. Ticket demand has been exceptional, with multiple categories already sold out. This reflects the deep-rooted passion for motorsport in Bahrain and the region, and we are fully prepared for a spectacular race weekend in April,” he said.

Official Launch

The details were announced earlier today during the official launch event at the BIC Media Centre in Sakhir. The event was attended by Andrea Stella, Team Principal of McLaren and reigning two-time Formula 1 Constructors’ Champion, as guest of honour.

The press conference was chaired by Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa, alongside Martin Gauss, Chief Executive Officer of Gulf Air, and David Croft, the internationally renowned Formula 1 broadcaster and commentator.

During the event, Stella highlighted the major technical changes coming to Formula 1 in 2026, confirming that all teams will debut completely redesigned cars that are smaller, lighter, and more agile, aimed at producing closer and more exciting racing.

The new generation of cars will feature sustainable hybrid power units, combining internal combustion engines with electric power on a 50/50 split, as well as active aerodynamics and an overtaking boost system.

A full-scale replica of the 2026 Formula 1 car, featuring a Bahrain-inspired design, was also unveiled today.

World Champions Headline the Driver Line-Up

This year’s Bahrain Grand Prix will feature 22 Formula 1 drivers, including four current and former world champions, competing in the 57-lap night race at the Sakhir circuit.

Defending champion Lando Norris leads McLaren alongside Oscar Piastri, with strong challenges expected from Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, and Charles Leclerc, among others.

Piastri claimed victory at last year’s Bahrain Grand Prix, securing McLaren’s first-ever win at the circuit, while Hamilton, Alonso, Verstappen, and Leclerc have all previously tasted success in Sakhir.
