Bahrain to Establish Regional Center of Excellence for Prosthetics and Rehabilitation

On the sidelines of the Global Forum for Entrepreneurship and Investment, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce signed a joint declaration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to establish a Regional Center of Excellence for Prosthetics Manufacturing and Rehabilitation in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The strategic initiative reflects Bahrain’s commitment to advancing high-value, advanced industries and reinforcing its position as a leading regional hub for specialized industries and advanced medical technologies.

The joint declaration was signed during the Global Forum for Entrepreneurship and Investment 2026, held under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, with the participation of senior decision-makers, investors, and entrepreneurs from around the world.

The establishment of the center aligns with the objectives of the Industrial Sector Strategy (2022–2026), which focuses on developing specialized industries, strengthening technology-driven and medical manufacturing sectors, diversifying the national production base, supporting industrial value chains, and enhancing the competitiveness of Bahrain’s industrial sector at both regional and international levels.

The project also complements national efforts to promote industrial innovation as a key priority under the National Innovation Strategy (2025–2035), through investment in research and development, accelerating the adoption of future technologies, and strengthening the industrial innovation ecosystem. These efforts support Bahrain’s transition toward a knowledge- and technology-based economy, positioning innovation as a key driver of sustainable industrial growth and the development of high-value industries.

The center aims to build an integrated ecosystem for prosthetics manufacturing and advanced rehabilitation services by leveraging digital manufacturing technologies, including artificial intelligence, 3D printing, and digital data management. This approach is expected to enhance the quality of medical products, improve manufacturing efficiency, and contribute to sustainable industrial development.
