Bahraini Officials Visit the UK to Explore Advanced Border Management Practices

Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Nationality, Passports, and Residence Affairs, along with Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa, President of Customs, and their accompanying delegation, conducted an official visit to the United Kingdom to study advanced experiences in border management and the regulation of passenger movement at official ports of entry.

During the visit, the delegation met with the British Border Force, including a session with Mr. Philip Douglas, Director General of the British Border Force. The discussions focused on operational mechanisms at Manchester International Airport, particularly procedures in passenger areas and the use of digital systems and modern technologies, including e-gates, to streamline entry and exit processes and enhance the quality of services provided to travelers.

The delegation also held meetings with officials from the National Border Targeting Centre (NBTC), reviewing how travel data is utilized, risk analysis methods, and the role of passenger classification systems in supporting decision-making and strengthening security readiness at entry points.

This visit reflects the Ministry of Interior’s commitment to exchanging expertise with international counterparts and learning from global best practices in border management. The initiative aims to enhance operational efficiency at Bahrain’s ports of entry, modernize procedures, and expand the use of e-gates in line with the highest international standards.
