Manama: Mohammed Khalid Al Hazza, Acting Advocate General and Head of the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), held discussions with a visiting delegation from the Secretariat of the Sub-Committee on Accreditation of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), highlighting the importance of national–international collaboration in strengthening human rights frameworks.
During the meeting, Al Hazza placed particular emphasis on the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) as a central partner in advancing and supporting Bahrain’s human rights system. He noted that sustained coordination between the SIU and the NIHR has played a vital role in reinforcing accountability mechanisms and ensuring that human rights standards are effectively integrated within the criminal justice process.
Al Hazza pointed to the memorandum of understanding signed in 2015 as a cornerstone of this cooperation, explaining that the agreement has enabled consistent information exchange, joint engagement, and constructive institutional coordination. He described the partnership as an essential element in aligning national practices with internationally recognised human rights principles.
The meeting also reviewed ways to further develop this cooperation, including opportunities to enhance institutional capacity, promote best practices, and support ongoing engagement with international accreditation and monitoring bodies.
Representatives from GANHRI welcomed the dialogue, underscoring the value of strong national institutions and coordinated frameworks in promoting credible and effective human rights systems.
