Bahrain Sets Guinness World Record for Religious Coexistence
The Kingdom of Bahrain has officially etched its name into the Guinness World Records, not through spectacle or scale alone, but through a powerful message of unity, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence.
The announcement was made shortly ago at the King Hamad Global Center for Coexistence and Tolerance in Manama, during celebrations marking the International Day of Peaceful Coexistence. After careful verification, Guinness World Records confirmed that Bahrain now holds the title for the highest density of houses of worship in a country.
To qualify for the record, a minimum density of 2.300 houses of worship per square kilometre was required. Bahrain exceeded this benchmark, achieving an official density of 2.577 houses of worship per square kilometre, based on data verified on January 28, 2026
In total, Bahrain is home to 2,123 houses of worship, serving a population of 1,588,670, and representing both Abrahamic and non-Abrahamic faiths. From mosques and churches to temples and other places of worship, the record reflects a society where religious diversity is not an exception, but a defining feature.
Announcing the achievement, the Guinness World Records adjudicator emphasized that the record is not merely about numbers or statistics. Instead, it symbolizes a national model where different faiths coexist openly and respectfully, and where diversity is embraced with confidence rather than caution.
The record was credited to the vision and leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, under whose patronage the King Hamad Global Center for Coexistence and Tolerance continues to promote dialogue, mutual respect, and understanding among cultures and religions.
Officials noted that this achievement sends a clear message to the world: Bahrain’s commitment to peaceful coexistence is not theoretical, but visible, measurable, and deeply rooted in daily life.
As the ceremony concluded in Manama, the message was clear — this Guinness World Record stands not just as a global first, but as a testament to Bahrain’s enduring values of tolerance, harmony, and unity in diversity.
