Market blooms for seventh week, connecting families with local farms
Farmers’ Market at the Bahrain Botanical Garden in Budaiya continued for the seventh consecutive week yesterday, attracting strong turnout from citizens and residents and reinforcing its role as a leading platform for promoting local agricultural products. The market is held every Saturday from 7 am to 2 pm.
The weekly market offers visitors fresh local produce, handmade products and family-friendly activities in a natural outdoor setting. It has become a popular weekend destination that combines shopping with educational and recreational experiences.
The market featured several interactive activities aimed at families and children. These included a Plant in a Jar workshop, natural flower arrangement sessions and planting activities with Little Farmers. One of the main attractions was the animal interaction area, where children engaged with chickens, ducks and goats, creating an enjoyable and educational experience.
Local agricultural products were offered at affordable prices, encouraging direct support for Bahraini farmers. Cucumbers were sold at 500 fils per kilogram, cherry tomatoes at BD1.5 per kilogram, and cauliflower at 500 fils per piece, attracting steady demand throughout the day.
The market also showcased the Bahraini Basket, featuring handmade local products by Bu Helal. Prices ranged between BD10 and BD12, highlighting traditional craftsmanship and supporting small local businesses.
Undersecretary for Agriculture and Marine Resources Asim Abdullatif Abdullah said the Farmers’ Market serves as a leading platform for marketing local agricultural products. He noted the strong turnout from both citizens and residents reflects growing confidence in national agricultural produce and its role in supporting the local agricultural sector.
He explained that the current season includes 33 local farmers. The market also includes sections for artisans, productive families, restaurants and cafés, enriching the visitor experience and meeting diverse needs
