Court Upholds BD 50 Fine After Woman Refused to Pay Luxury Car Rent

Manama: The Court of Cassation has issued a final and binding ruling in a case involving unpaid rental fees for a luxury vehicle, fining a woman BD 50 for failing to settle the dues.

According to case details, the defendant rented a vehicle from a car rental company and did not pay the rental charges for 24 days, amounting to BD 1,210. The court established her responsibility based on witness testimonies, which it deemed credible and sufficient to support the conviction.

The Public Prosecution charged the defendant, and the Minor Criminal Court initially sentenced her to one month in prison, with a bail of BD 100 set to suspend the sentence. The defendant appealed the ruling, prompting the Court of Appeal to amend the judgment by replacing the prison sentence with a fine of BD 50.

The defendant then filed a further appeal, claiming the ruling lacked proper reasoning, was based on flawed logic, misapplied the law and violated her right to a defence. She also argued that the witness statements were false and alleged that her sister had rented the vehicle using her identity card.

The Court of Cassation dismissed these arguments, upheld the appellate court’s ruling, and ordered the confiscation of the bail amount, thereby concluding the case.
