Parliament will at its next sitting take up a proposal to allow Al Kawara residents to use the football pitch at Tubli Primary Boys School during the evening.
“Al Kawara has no football pitch after rapid building ate up spare ground, so opening the Tubli school field in the evenings would give children a safe place to play and keep people active,” said MP Zainab AbdulAmeer. “It would also steer play away from streets and public spots and help neighbours mix in a safer setting.”
Public health
Parliament’s Services Committee examined the matter across three consecutive meetings in the sixth legislative term and recommended approval, saying the step fits state aims to back sport and improve public health.
The Ministry of Education raised reservations about immediate execution.
It said the school’s sand pitch is linked to other facilities, has no separate entrance or perimeter fence, and lacks the equipment needed to make evening use safe.
Warrants
The committee said the local need warrants preparing the pitch in future or setting aside a nearby alternative.
It noted the proposer’s readiness to work with the relevant bodies on a workable arrangement.
The proposal is listed for debate at the next sitting.
