The Gulf Society of Endocrinology and Diabetes concluded its annual conference, held on October 24 and 25 in Dubai, chaired by Bahraini physician Dr. Wiam Hussein, President of the Society.
The event brought together more than 1,000 physicians and specialists in endocrinology and diabetes from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, the Middle East, and around the world, making it one of the region’s most prominent scientific gatherings in the field.
The conference served as a platform for exchanging expertise, fostering collaboration, and advancing research in endocrinology, diabetes, obesity, and osteoporosis.
Critical time
It comes at a critical time, as the GCC continues to record some of the highest rates of diabetes globally, with prevalence ranging from 15 to 20 per cent among adults in several countries, according to the International Diabetes Federation’s 2024 data.
Studies also indicate that 35 to 40 per cent of the regional population is affected by obesity, a major risk factor for diabetes and endocrine disorders.
