Bahrain Marks World Statistics Day 2025, Spotlighting Quality Data for All

The Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) of Bahrain celebrated World Statistics Day 2025 on October 20, under the theme “Quality Statistics and Data for Everyone”. Observed every five years, the occasion emphasizes the critical role of reliable, high-quality statistics in driving informed decision-making and sustainable development.

The event highlighted the importance of accurate data, innovative national systems, and timely indicators to monitor progress across diverse sectors. It also reinforced collaboration among national, regional, and international statistical organizations, fostering the exchange of expertise and best practices to enhance transparency and accountability.

iGA Chief Executive Mohammed Ali Al Qaed praised Bahrain’s leadership for their strong support of the statistical sector, noting that reliable data is essential to shaping effective policies and guiding sustainable development. “Accurate statistics empower decision-makers, support public trust, and strengthen national capacities,” Al Qaed said, commending professionals in the field for their dedication to providing precise and dependable information.

Al Qaed highlighted Bahrain’s long-standing leadership in statistics, which dates back to the region’s first census in 1941 and continued through the 11th national census in 2020. He emphasized the importance of regional and international cooperation, pointing to partnerships with organizations such as the GCC Statistical Center, the UN Statistical Commission, and Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Statistics. These collaborations aim to unify indicators, improve transparency, and demonstrate Bahrain’s progress in leveraging data and technology to enhance public services.

The iGA conducts a wide range of national surveys, including health, education, economic establishments, household income and expenditure, tourism, and industrial products, providing comprehensive datasets that guide evidence-based policymaking. Through the Bahrain Open Data Portal, citizens, researchers, and government entities can freely access and analyze up-to-date information, promoting transparency and informed decision-making.

World Statistics Day brings together over 130 countries to strengthen statistical capacity, foster innovation in data collection, and harness technology to improve data quality. Bahrain’s celebrations underscore the nation’s commitment to leveraging high-quality statistics to tackle emerging challenges and drive sustainable development.
