Super Harvest Moon to Illuminate Bahrain’s Sky on Monday Night

Bahrain’s night sky is set to glow brighter than usual tomorrow, Monday, as the much-anticipated “Super Harvest Moon” makes its dazzling appearance, coinciding with the full moon of Rabi Al-Thani 1447 AH, according to Bahraini astronomer Mohammed Redha Al Asfour.

Al Asfour explained that the Harvest Moon is the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox, which took place on September 22. The name dates back to Native American tribes, who relied on the moon’s bright light to extend their working hours during the harvest season — hence the term “Harvest Moon.”

Adding to its charm, this full moon is also a supermoon, appearing larger and brighter than usual. “The moon will reach its perigee — the closest point to Earth in its orbit — at a distance of about 360,000 kilometers, making it shine with exceptional brilliance,” Al Asfour said. He noted that next month, the moon will move to its farthest point from Earth this year, offering a contrasting spectacle.

The Super Harvest Moon will rise at 4:48 p.m. on Monday and remain visible throughout the night until 5:34 a.m. on Tuesday, reaching its peak illumination at 6:47 a.m. It will rise again on Tuesday evening at 5:24 p.m., offering another chance to witness the celestial wonder.

Al Asfour encouraged astronomy lovers and photographers to seize the opportunity to admire the glowing full moon under Bahrain’s crisp autumn skies, especially during moonrise and moonset, when it appears closest to the horizon — a moment that promises both beauty and inspiration.
