A plot of land in Maqsha, recently cleared of waste and chemical containers, has drawn attention from local council members and Waqf representatives, with calls to fence the area and install cameras to stop further misuse.
Northern Municipal Council chairman and First District member Dr Sayed Shubber Ebrahim Al Wadaei visited the site yesterday.
He was joined by Maqsha Matam president Redha Mohammed Jassim Al Muwali and Ja’fari Waqf Directorate representative Fadhel Radhi.
Sites
The land and nearby sites fall under the Directorate’s care.
During the visit, the group agreed that enclosing the site with a fence would help prevent further dumping.
They also raised the idea of mounting surveillance cameras on the wall of the adjacent hall, which also belongs to the Waqf.
Issues
Attention then turned to the neighbouring land, where several issues were noted.
The site was said to need follow-up from the Directorate to sort out its condition and ensure it is used in a way that meets health and environmental rules, while also serving the area’s needs.
The visit also included a walk through Maqsha Cemetery.
Care
Those present said the burial ground was in need of better care. Residents and Matam members repeated their call for a fence around the site to protect its privacy.
The council said it would prepare a report for the Directorate, setting out the residents’ concerns and the council’s suggestions for what should be done next.
