The Ministry of Works has officially begun a new phase of road expansion works on Al Fateh Highway, focusing on the busy intersection with Shaikh Isa bin Salman Highway (also known as the Mina Salman Junction).
The expansion will be carried out in both directions—eastbound and westbound. On the eastern side, near the Ghuraifa area (Block 324), the project will support traffic heading north toward Manama. On the western side, near the Um Al Hassam area (Block 339), it will facilitate smoother traffic flow heading south toward Shaikh Isa bin Salman Highway.
According to the Ministry, this project is part of ongoing efforts to enhance Bahrain’s road infrastructure and improve traffic flow. The aim is to implement fast-track solutions that help reduce congestion and increase safety on the roads.
As part of the expansion, a new traffic lane will be added in each direction on Al Fateh Highway, stretching from the Mina Salman Junction southward to just before the Juffair Junction (known as the Dolab Intersection). Once completed, the northern section of the highway (near Ghuraifa) will have three lanes, while the southern section (near Um Al Hassam) will expand to four lanes.
The Ministry also noted that the project includes relocating and protecting underground utility services, as well as installing necessary road signs and markings to ensure the safety of all road users.
This section of Al Fateh Highway builds on previous development works that have already been completed and opened to traffic, covering the stretch from Sheikh Hamad Bridge in the north to the Juffair Junction in the south—a distance of over 3 kilometers.
