A security man enjoying a casual glance from his window had little idea he was about to catch sight of one of Bahrain’s trickiest drug-dealing schemes.

An Asian man was lurking about, furtively placing yellow paper-wrapped parcels in discreet spots outside two neighbouring homes.

One went behind a water meter, the other beneath an air conditioning vent.

Clearly, the dealer thought using such dead-drop hiding spots would keep prying eyes at bay.

But luck wasn’t on his side. Within moments, his carefully laid plans unravelled spectacularly as the observant security chap stepped outside, grabbed hold of him, and promptly called in the police.

The accused, aged 25, now finds himself facing charges in the High Criminal Court for possessing and dealing hashish and mind-altering substances.

Judges have adjourned proceedings until 26 May, leaving him locked up as prosecutors prepare final arguments.

Court records explain how the drama began. Seeing something odd, the off-duty officer watched from home as the dealer moved suspiciously from one house to the next, depositing the little bundles.
