Major roadworks are scheduled to begin next year in Salmaniya and Bilad Al Qadeem as part of a broader infrastructure upgrade across the Fifth Constituency of the Capital Governorate.
The Ministry of Works, responding to a parliamentary query from Financial and Economic Affairs Committee chairman Ahmed Al Salloom, outlined several projects planned for 2025 and 2026.
Key among them is the complete rebuilding of Road 2904 in Block 329, stretching from Al-Farabi Pharmacy to Royal Hospital. Work is slated to start in the second quarter of 2025.
Meanwhile, detailed designs for the redevelopment of roads in Block 361 in Bilad Al Qadeem are nearly complete. A new connector road between Street 61 and Road 5909 in Block 359 is also planned, with 50 per cent of design work finalised.
The Ministry also listed several maintenance projects. These include car park repairs on Adliya Avenue and Ahmed Ali Kanoo Avenue in Block 334, resurfacing of roads in Salmaniya’s Block 329, and repairs to Road 5925 in Block 359 in Zinj.
On the sanitation front, the wastewater network already covers the entire Fifth Constituency, with the governorate’s overall coverage at nearly 93 per cent.
A key 3.2km sewer line from Zinj to the Tubli treatment plant is 90 per cent complete and expected to finish by mid2025. Completed works in 2023 and 2024 include road maintenance in Suqayya and Mahooz, new pedestrian barriers in Zinj, and additional parking near Al Anzoor Centre.
The Ministry said infrastructure priorities are determined based on construction activity, road conditions, project importance, and annual budget approvals, in coordination with local trustees and municipal councils. It confirmed that no projects in the Fifth Constituency have been delayed or cancelled in recent years.
