30 days’ jail for attacking cop

A British teacher, serving at a local university, has been handed down 30 days in prison for attacking a police officer on duty. The incident happened at a local hotel, where the defendant, aged 40, is said to have troubled the customers before he physically and verbally assaulted the victim.

Court files revealed that the assailant was drunk when he committed his offence.

“We responded to an order from the call centre to go to the hotel because there was someone (the defendant) making mayhem. They told us he was drunk, so we went to the place and we found him,” the victim told prosecutors earlier.

“I tried with my colleagues to take him with us in the patrol car, but he refused. We wanted to test the level of alcohol in his blood and he declined also. So, we tried to handcuff him and drag him into the car. He resisted us and insulted me before he pulled my dress.”

The defendant admitted to drinking large quantity of alcohol at that night. But, he stated that he couldn’t remember anything happened.

He was found guilty on grounds of publicly insulting a public employee, insulting him while carrying out his duties.
