More swimming pools demanded

Bahrain may soon have public swimming pools, as a group of MPs are pushing a proposal that demands the Government of establishing four of them in the country.

The proposal stipulates constructing four public swimming pools, one in each governorate, with Olympic specification, in order to allow the youth develop, mentally and physically.

The presenters of the proposal explained that it would contribute in protecting the youth from engaging in unwanted behaviours, develop their talents and promote their capabilities.

They insisted that it’s necessary to have more of these facilities in the country, especially that there is only one public swimming pool with Olympic specifications in Bahrain.

They also said while presenting the proposal to the council’s Youth and Sports Committee that there is a need for the country to be placed on the international map of sports professionalism, adding that this would improve water sports in the Kingdom.

The committee discussed the proposal with Youth and Sports Ministry, which said in its reply that it has constructed several Olympic and semi-Olympic swimming pools in different clubs during the past period. It added that there are more under-construction projects to be implemented in Riffa, Muharraq and Hamad Town.

After it reviewed the ministry’s remarks, the committee, headed by MP Ghazi Al Rahma, agreed to the proposal, which will be voted on soon.
