The Chief Public Prosecutor of the Court of Appeal announced that the High Criminal Court, in its appellate session today, has formally accepted two appeals related to a fatal traffic accident in Sar and a drug possession case. However, the court unanimously rejected both appeals, upholding the original rulings.

The defendant has been sentenced to nine years in prison, fined BHD 3,000, with his driver’s license suspended for one year after serving the sentence. Additionally, the vehicle and the seized drugs have been confiscated.

The case stems from an incident where the defendant, under the influence of drugs and alcohol, was driving at excessive speed and disregarding traffic safety rules. His vehicle suddenly veered into oncoming traffic, colliding with a car carrying a husband, wife, and their three children. The crash tragically killed the husband, wife, and one child, while the two other children sustained serious injuries.

Investigations also revealed that the defendant possessed drugs at his home for personal use, leading to a separate report and investigation. A search of his residence confirmed the presence of cannabis (hashish).

The lower court had initially sentenced him to a total of nine years in prison, imposed the fine, suspended his driving license, and confiscated the vehicle and drugs. Dissatisfied, the defendant filed an appeal, which was ultimately rejected by the appellate court, affirming the original sentences.
