Bahrain Reaffirms Commitment to Energy Transition at GCC Engineering Forum

His Excellency Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister of Bahrain, has reiterated the Kingdom’s strong commitment to energy transition through the adoption of innovative initiatives and technologies. He emphasized the promotion and support of renewable energy sources as a fundamental pillar of Bahrain’s comprehensive development journey, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and closely followed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
HE Shaikh Khalid highlighted that energy transition presents a strategic opportunity for Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, enabling them to diversify their economies, reduce carbon emissions, and enhance long-term energy security.
His remarks came during the inauguration of the 26th GCC Engineering Forum and Energy Management Conference, held under the theme “Challenges of Energy Transition.” The event, organized by the Bahrain Society of Engineers in collaboration with the GCC Engineering Union, brought together leading experts and professionals from across the region in the fields of engineering and energy.
On this occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister underscored the importance of strengthening public-private partnerships to achieve sustainable development goals. He noted that such collaboration plays a crucial role in accelerating the energy transition, developing the necessary infrastructure for renewable energy, and ensuring the fulfillment of the region’s strategic objectives.
HE Shaikh Khalid expressed his appreciation to the Bahrain Society of Engineers and the GCC Engineering Union for organizing this professional gathering. He emphasized that the forum serves as a key platform for enhancing Gulf cooperation in the energy sector and exchanging knowledge among specialists and industry leaders to develop innovative solutions that support regional energy sustainability strategies.
Welcoming participants from across the region, he looked forward to valuable discussions and practical recommendations that would contribute to shaping a more sustainable energy future for the GCC.
Meanwhile, Dr. Raeda Al Alawi, President of the Bahrain Society of Engineers and Chair of the 26th GCC Engineering Forum, extended her sincere gratitude to HE Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa for inaugurating the event. She noted that his continued support reflects the government’s commitment to the association’s mission, activities, and contributions to advancing the engineering profession at local, regional, and global levels.
In her opening speech, Dr. Al Alawi reaffirmed the association’s dedication to active participation in GCC Engineering Union activities, particularly the engineering forum, which the Bahrain Society of Engineers has supported since its inception in 1997.
Following the speeches, the Deputy Prime Minister honored distinguished engineers from GCC countries, heads of regional engineering societies and organizations, winners of the 26th GCC Engineering Union Award for Excellence and Innovation, and key sponsors of the forum, recognizing their contributions to the advancement of the engineering sector in the region.
