FILMS IN HER DREAMS

An air of mystery surrounds 21-year-old Deena Al Saweer, whose each stage of life seems to have no connection with the other, be it her career, education or even hobbies. But beneath all these appearances, she has a well-defined aim — to help people.

Deena is a student of International Logistics, a study that connects people, business and shipments with each other in the most efficient way. And her three-year work experience has been in Human Resources, where she helped people find opportunities.

And now, Deena is in a totally different role. She is emerging as a prominent videographer and filmmaker, a role through which she could connect her ideas to people and different types of people with each other. She spent a year in the US, where she created her first “personal video” project, eventually establishing Deena Productions.

Passion for Videography

According to Deena, videography had fascinated her ever since she was a child.

“When I was around 9 years old, I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up and I said, I want to make movies because through films, I can bring to life what I only see in my head. Moreover, I can still pursue my passion for music by creating a soundtrack for it.”

On her first personal video project in the US, she said, “As part of the project, I filmed ordinary people for a short video to make them think that they are worthy of being showcased. One girl told me, You’d be better off filming that guy. I don’t know him but he seems more interesting than me, and her low confidence made me film her and prove her wrong. Anyone be interesting if you have an open mind.”

She added, “The purpose of my videos is to show people that beauty can be seen in anything; just your perspective matters. I love videography because a normal happening or a daily occurrence for everyone else is an enticing visual for me. I can make people appreciate small things.”

Deena Productions

There was a time where Deena didn’t have much confidence, but soon, people started showing interest in her works. At first, she casually introduced herself as a pro and soon she got acceptance. “When people

believed I was a pro, it gave me confidence and I decided to start taking film classes in order to add to my credibility.”

“Deena Productions aims to make inspiring, fun and good-hearted videos. I’m not stressing over making my firm the biggest production house in the region. Right now, my focus is on making videos that bring a smile to faces.”

Inspiration

Deena talks about a vivid incident that happened about 10 years ago. “Once, when I was 12, I told my uncle about how amazing it would be if Icouldbea filmmaker. He asked me a simple question, “Is that what you really want to do?” I said “yes”. And then he told me, “Where there is a will, there is always a way.” That was my life-defining moment. I never ever forgot those words, which still steer me in many pivotal moments.”

“It’s very simple: if you really want it, you will lose sleep over it, you will work non-stop until you achieve 1 per cent of that dream and then do it all over again until you reach 100 per cent.”

Right now, Deena is engaged in creating action and sports videos with an inspirational message. One of her most celebrated videos is about inspirational women in sports.

She is also working on her biggest project in her career so far — a music video about the Kingdom by a Bahraini rap group, which will be released on the National Day.
