Colbrelli still best after second stage

Manama : Bahrain’s Merida Pro Cycling team rider Sonny Colbrelli from Italy continued to be the top rider of eight for the Kingdom yesterday, as he was classified as sixth overall after completing the second stage of the 104th Tour de France in 4 hours 37 minutes 6 seconds over 203.5km from Dusseldorf to Liege in Belgium.

Colbrelli finished in the same time as stage winner Marcel Kittel of Germany riding for the Quick-Step Floors along with 159 other riders.

Bahrain’s other riders classified with the same time as the stage winner were, Yukiya Arashiro (23rd, Japan), Janez Brajkovic (122nd, Slovenia), Tsgabu Grmay (143rd, Ethiopia), Ondrej Cink (144th, Czech Republic) and Grega Bole (157th, Slovenia), while Borut Bozic of Slovenia was 51 seconds off the leader (4:37:51) in 163rd and Spaniard Javier Moreno (4:42:53) a further five minutes 47 seconds behind.

Bahrain’s ninth team member Spaniard Ion Izaguirre was forced to withdraw during the opening stage in Dusseldorf, Germany and two other riders have also since retired.
