Interior Ministry slams ‘Waad’

ManamaSecurity authorities yesterday slammed the allegations of a recently-closed political society that the police committed violations by closing its headquarters few weeks ago.

In reply to the accusations of the members of the National Democratic Action Society, aka “Waad”, which was dissolved by a court order on May 31, a senior official in the Interior Ministry rebuffed the allegations and confirmed that the procedures taken by the police came to protect civil security and public order.

“The court verdict to close down ‘Waad’ was a primary sentence and what the police did on May 31 wasn’t related to the closing down of its headquarters but was meant to stop illegal assembly associated with inciting calls that could disturb general security and civil peace,” said Major General Mohammed Buhamood, Assistant Undersecretary of Legal Affairs in Interior Ministry, in a statement issued here yesterday.

“The security of Bahrain and safety of its people were the government’s top priority, while citizenship involved both rights and responsibility to which everyone should remain committed to. No one is above the law and everyone is accountable for his actions, whether societies or individuals, if they violated the principles of national responsibility and peaceful coexistence by promoting sectarianism and breaking the constitutional principles and the law,” the official added in his statement.

He also affirmed that the police were committed to dealing with illegal violations in all situations and locations.

As reported earlier, Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa against the society for its violations to the Kingdom’s laws and regulations.

The minister said that the Society has committed violations that harm the principle of respecting the rule of law, support terrorism and support for those convicted of inciting, promoting and practicing violence, in addition to promoting changing the country’s political system by force.

The High Civil Court announced on May 31 that it has ordered the dissolution of the Society and the liquidation of its assets.
