Disabled differently abled and Proud

This is an open letter to the amazing father at the mall, who corrected a bystander that his child is not disabled, but differently abled and proud.

Sir,

I have a smart little brother who loves to play the piano, he has been trying since over half a decade but he just can’t get Fur Elise by Beethoven to be half as divine as it really is. When his test scores came out and I scolded him, he told me “I am no Stephen Hawking!” And Helen Keller’s story is what scored him in his previous grade (You know the book is mandatory right?)

Now to those of you who do not know, these are just few of the prodigies that you termed ‘disabled’.

So sir, thank you for seeing in your little boy what we fail to see in our own children, for reminding us that, this little boy can accomplish things beyond the reach of a thousand others, and that your young man did not need sympathy for being different, that it is this difference that keeps him above par from others.

Thank you for teaching me that disability exists in our perspective and not our bodies, that even a candle wouldn’t burn bright hadn’t it been for the flame.
