US envoy signs MoU with Wentworth Institute of Technology

Ambassador of the Kingdom to the United States of America, Shaikh Abdullah bin Rashed Al Khalifa, and the President of the Wentworth Institute of Technology, Mark Thompson, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the embassy and the institute to consider enhancing co-operation in the field of higher education in the Kingdom.

The Memorandum of understanding focuses on the study of four basic aspects of co-operation: The use of information technology in the development of education especially in the areas of artificial intelligence and program development, exchange of information on the mechanisms of accreditation of subjects and specialisations and recognition of educational institutions, develop technical and vocational education and develop the capabilities required by the labor market, and encourage Wentworth Institute to open branches in the Kingdom, or extend joint programs with higher education institutions in the Kingdom such as the University of Bahrain and Bahrain Polytechnic University, or the University of Hidaya Khalifa in the future.

The ambassador spoke about the bold and pioneering economic policies of the Kingdom of Bahrain, which was pioneering in diversifying sources of income and adopting an open market policy to create a competitive environment that encourages creativity and innovation.

The ambassador stressed that for more than four decades the Kingdom of Bahrain has played a leading role in establishing and maturing the Financial sector in the region, where the Kingdom began early in diversifying sources of income in its National Economy away from absolute dependence on oil resources, and created a long-standing regulatory environment, the Kingdom has become the Financial Centre with the largest number of licenses granted to Financial institutions in the region.
