Fire engulfs cargo ships along Dubai creek
Dubai
A fire broke out on Monday aboard cargo vessels which were docked alongside the Dubai Creek.
Dubai's government media officials said the fire was brought under control within three hours, and that one minor injury was reported.
The fire began in the afternoon along the creek, sending thick cloud of black smoke above the Deira district, home to hotels, office buildings and gold and spice bazaars.
The cause of the fire is unclear, that spread to merchandise boxes and crates stacked up along the quay.
A bank employee, Khurram Kabir, who saw the fire on his way home from work, said that many boats were burning and people were trying to escape the flames as thick smoke filled the air.
