ROME: Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni emphasized on Thursday that Europe and the United States must maintain a unified front to ensure the success of the fragile ceasefire in the Middle East. Speaking following the announcement of the "Islamabad Talks," Meloni stated that Western coordination is ‘essential’ to preventing the truce from collapsing.

The Prime Minister highlighted that the two-week pause in hostilities presents a narrow window for diplomacy that requires a shared transatlantic strategy. She warned that any fragmentation in the Western response could be exploited, potentially leading to a resumption of the conflict that has already impacted global energy markets and Mediterranean security.

Meloni’s remarks align with Italy’s current role in the G7, where she has advocated for a balanced approach that supports regional stability while ensuring maritime safety in the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz. She confirmed that Italy is ready to contribute to any international monitoring mechanisms that may arise from the negotiations in Pakistan.

The Italian leader also noted that the ‘Islamabad Talks’ are not just a regional matter but a global security priority. She called on EU member states to provide a cohesive diplomatic backing to the mediation efforts, reinforcing the idea that a stable Middle East is vital for European economic and social interests.
